NEW DELHI: With several western military analysts and intelligence agencies claiming that Russian troops are making very slow progress in part due to stiff resistance from the Ukrainian forces, and its own logistical and supply chain problems - US officials are now seeing a shift in Moscow's strategy, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
Though Moscow claims that it is achieving all its targets in Ukraine in the given timeframes, US officials have pointed out that the Kremlin is now actively seeking leverage to compel Ukraine into accepting neutrality between Russia and the West.
European nations as well as the US have said that Russia's goal was to capture all of Ukraine in a matter of days and replace Volodymyr Zelenskyy's government with a pro-Russian regime.
With the invasion well into its fourth week and Russian forces stalled on the outskirts of Kyiv, Russian President Vladimir Putin seems to have changed tactics.
According to US officials, Moscow is now aiming to pressure Kyiv into accepting Russia's claims over its southern and eastern territories.
